Only a few years ago 'saddle fitting' was something the majority of the equine world showed little interest in.  It was only when something went wrong that the services of a saddle fitter were called upon.  Today things have changed, the riding public has a far better awareness of the importance of a well fitting, designed and constructed saddle, and the importance that saddle plays upon the comfort, welfare and success of a horse and rider team.  Here at NSC we are proud to offer a full fitting and alteration service to ensure both you and your horse are able to exceed at your chosen discipline, whether that be dressage, jumping or you just enjoy hacking around the local farm tracks.

How do you know when to call out a saddle fitter?

The most obvious time people call a saddle fitter is if they require a new saddle.  If they are starting a new discipline or have a new horse for example, but what about if you already have a horse and a saddle?  Do you ever have a little bit of doubt in the back of your mind that something is not as it should be?  The indicator signs that your saddle may need checking can be something small, for example, your horse has been gradually decreasing his stride length, or he has recently been clipping the top rail when jumping, something he has never done before.  Alternatively the signs could be something much greater- bucking, rearing, trying to bite when being tacked up.  We shouldn't always put these changes down to the horse being difficult, he may be trying to tell you something.

The signs do not always need to come from your horse, listen to your friends or instructors.  Are you always being told to sit up straight or put your legs back?  Does your friend always comment on you leaning to one side when they are riding behind you?  Again, these are all indicators that your saddle may need checking.  A slight rebalance of the wool flocking within your saddle can make a major difference to your balance and your horses way of going.

NSC are now able to offer a full service allowing you to either have a new saddle fully fitted and adjusted to you and your horse, or to have your current saddle checked and any possible alterations made to allow you and your horse to ride in comfort and to the best of your abilities.
